Trader Joe’s Schloss Biebrich Sekt Review

Trader Joe's Schloss Biebrich Sekt
Given that New Year’s Eve is right around the corner, you’re probably looking for the cheapest way to get drunk off something bubbly and champagne-like while still seeming moderately classy and impressing your friends. You’re not in high school anymore. It’s time to grow up and move past the Andre and find something at Trader Joe’s. If you want to spend less than $5 and aren’t too picky when it comes to taste, Schloss Biebrich Sekt is the perfect choice!

Sekt, for those of you unfamiliar, is a sparkling wine from Germany (and sometimes Austria). It is generally made in the same way as champagne except with riesling, pinot noir, pinot blanc, and / or pinot gris grapes. For practical purposes, it’s in the same family as champagne, prosecco, cava, and all those other delicious things.

Schloss Biebrich Sekt pours like a really bubbly Riesling in appearance and aroma. The taste is generally inoffensive. Of the people I served it to, not a single person found it undrinkable. People tended to find it fruity, with some apple flavors. Overall, tasters generally thought that at this price ($5), you could do a lot worse. If that’s not a glowing recommendation, I don’t know what is.
