Brugal Anejo Rum is a perfect example of the delicious bargains you can find with rum. For years, I’ve been telling everyone who will listen that rum offers one of the highest quality to cost ratios in the liquor world. I have no idea why that is, but I fully take advantage of it at every opportunity. Case in point is the Brugal Anejo Rum. While this is not the best rum ever, it is very difficult to find something tastier for $20.
Brugal Anejo Rum is bottled at around 80 proof and is blended from rums aged for 3 to 5 years in used white oak barrels (typically bourbon or whiskey barrels). This leaves the Brugal Anejo with a rich, sweet flavor balanced out by mild amounts of wood and fruitiness. I find that it is smooth enough to drink straight, yet cheap enough that I don’t feel wasteful using it to make cocktails.
Seriously, this stuff is a find. I recommend heading out and buying a bottle today. It is a great rum that skillfully balances the tradeoff between cost and quality to a point where we all win.
