Seven Daughters Rich Red Winemaker’s Blend is fortunately for someone, not named after a gentleman with a lot of kids. Instead, this winery is named for the seven different grapes that go into this, their flagship product. I give them points for creativity there. The grapes include Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah, Carignane, and Sangiovese. My guess is that they stopped at seven because if they had any more, they wouldn’t fit on the label.
Sometimes, when you throw together so many grapes you get something unbalanced with a number of conflicting flavors. That is not the case here. Instead you get a balanced and complex wine. There are strong fruit flavors, but it is still quite dry. A bit of spice and vanilla round things out.
I enjoyed the Seven Daughters Rich Red Winemaker’s Blend. Yes, it is $15, but I see this as a perfect dinner party bottle of red. It is out of my every day budget but crowd pleasing enough to be a great choice for a get-together.
