Now that the weather has turned warm, I have turned back to the wonderful world of sparkling wines. Sure, the nice, heavy reds did a fabulous job of getting me through the cold, cruel winter. But that time is over now. It is bright and sunny outside. Happy times are here again. How better to celebrate than with a bottle of Segura Viudas Brut?
Segura Viudas Brut is a sparkling cava that you pick up for a very reasonable price. In fact, Food & Wine named this one of their “Best $15 & Under Wines”. If that wasn’t enough of an endorsement, Wine Spectator’s Advance named it a Best Value and Cooking Light labeled it one of the “Best Bargain Wines of 2012″. Well that sure is a lot of publicity! Either they have a great publicist or great wine (or both).
So is the wine good? Segura Viudas Brut is a blend of 50% Macabeo, 35% Parellada, and 15% Xarel-lo that comes in at 11.5% abv. It is strongly influenced by green apples and a floral essence with maybe a bit of citrus. My vote is that this is simply a great wine. Go buy some.
